The Balmaghie journey is a unique one — covering multiple continents and spanning many industries. The Balmaghie founders met in Abu Dhabi and bonded over the love of unique spirits and craft beer. After nearly a decade in the UAE, a trip home opened our eyes to the rapidly developing beer styles, craft whiskies and cocktail techniques being experienced in America.

ABOUT SIDE HUSTLE BREWS
Our story began on a ride from Abu Dhabi to Dubai. Our founder, Chad, realized there was nowhere in the country that sold the fresh, juicy, hazy IPA he craved after an insane month at the office. As he sat in traffic near the eastern mangroves, he had an epiphany: the UAE community has been overlooked by the global beer industry – and the amazing beverages developed by craft brewers around the world were simply not present. With no local brewing operations and no focus from global exporting breweries, UAE residents were basically stuck drinking whatever beer the top global brands decided to export.
ABOUT BALMAGHIE ARTISAN SPIRITS
Two friends, two rocking chairs and two bottles of rye – so begins the Balmaghie Artisan Spirits story. As Chad, a Cajun from South Louisiana, and Chuck, a Redneck from Central Pennsylvania, sat on two wooden rocking chairs on a balcony in Dubai they slowly savored sips from two bottles of rye. With each sip, they compared and contrasted the impact of new fill oak barrels on the spicy rye versus the softer, more refined notes of second use oak barrels refilled with the same rye. A simple barrel swap is all it took to open additional layers of flavor, providing these two rye lovers with an entirely new experience. Genius. As they discussed the impact of this swap and reflected on their own whiskey journeys, they realized that the “compare and contrast”/ “similar but different” tasting method was a beautiful way to introduce others to their favorite spirit.
ABOUT KEYSTONE HOPS FARM
Keystone Hops Farm, located about 45 miles north of Pittsburgh and 6 miles south of Grove City Premium Outlets, in Slippery Rock, PA, has been growing high quality Pennsylvania hops since 2014. Our beautiful farm is dedicated to utilizing responsible and environmentally conscious farm practices to produce the highest quality hops available to craft brewing. We currently have 1.5 acres of mature Cascade, Chinook and Nugget hop plants and expect to expand our crop in 2020 to include new aroma varieties bred to excel in the Western PA climate. Additionally, our farm is the future home to Balmaghie Brewstillery, a unique brewing and distilling facility dedicated to providing the highest quality beer and spirits available. Being home to the Balmaghie Brewstillery gives us a unique perspective on hops as we cultivate under the ever-present gaze of a world class brewing team.
